Recipe of the Month – Protein Bread

Protein Bread

I know what your thinking, bread is bread…its all about the carbs!! Not any more I present to you my latest obsession – Protein Bread!! Sometimes there is nothing better than enjoying a yummy slice (or two) of toast without the ‘guilt’ of hiking up your carbohydrate quota for the day.

On a recent trip to a Fitness Expo in the City Centre I came across this Protein Bread Mix. You don’t need to be a Masterchef as it is super easy to make!!

With so many of today’s population suffering from gluten intolerances this is the perfect replacement to ‘normal’ bread. This bread is gluten free, soy free, has no added sugar, is 100% natural, high in protein, low in carbs, high in fibre and as no hidden nasties!! Ingredients include whey protein, golden flax meal, pea protein, almond meal, gluten-free baking powder, chia seeds, linseeds, sea salt, kibbled black pepper and cinnamon. I added sunflower and pumpkin seeds to mine to give it that extra oomph! Nothing but sheer goodness!!

So what’s the digits?

For two slices (74g) – 119kcal, 16.4g of protein, 3.8g fat, 2.4g carbohydrates & 4.8g Dietary Fibre.  Comparing this with several other ‘standard’ supermarket loaves, per serve you are typically consuming approximately 25-50kcal less, twice as much protein and a whopping 20 – 30g less carbohydrates!

All that said I have tried and tested it..repeatedly and it tastes yummy! I think it is best eaten toasted with a smidge of butter or peanut butter (a little jam won’t do you any harm either!!).

I’d love to hear if any of you give it a try! Why not post a pic on our facebook page or tag us on instagram to show us your creations!!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Happy healthy eating 🙂

*I purchased the mix at the Expo however you can order it online from the Protein Bread Company.
