Trainer Spotlight – Amy Davey

Fitness Keeper Trainer Profile: Amy Davey

Specialties/focus or areas of interest:
Strength and conditioning amy d picb
Muscle activation and core control

Focus on progress, not perfection.

What drew you to the profession:
When I was 13 I fractured my spine and spent a lot of time getting physiotherapy for rehabilitation. Rather than helping people who are injured or sick, I wanted to help people be proactive and preventative towards their health. So they don’t have to spend time ‘fixing’ their health and can prevent injury risk and live their life to the fullest.

What do you do to keep yourself fit:
Group fitness, Gym workouts and Dancing. I also get personal training by a strength and conditioning coach. I want to be the best PT I can be, so I get this coaching so I can learn the best ways to help my clients so they can reach their goals and I also get to work towards my own fitness goals at the same time.

I love exploring, going on adventures and discovering the world. I enjoy any activity that involves a little challenge, sunshine, the outdoors, getting that heart rate up.

Interesting fact about you:
In January 2019, I went on a trip to Central America (Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Costa Rica) and I hiked an active volcano and swam with sharks and stingrays without any cage.

If you could give one tip to your clients, what would it be?
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast! You will reach your goals faster by doing all reps with more control and with correct technique rather than focusing on hitting the big numbers.

Advice for people who are contemplating getting started:
Exercise is about more than the physical benefits. It enables you to have more positive mental health, increased productivity and more energy to get you through the day. You can never fully understand it, until to you give it a go. So definitely get started now so you don’t think ‘ I wish I started earlier’.
